Ecology and other themes

Coulouris over a long career took up numerous experiments with theme and format. A long series of large prints in the 1990s focused on ecology, including the links of environment to human productive activity, the latter a long-term interest. Arbroath Fisher Lassie and Ecology Triptych appeared in numerous colours. A series of miniature works in acrylics and oil ranged across light hearted and themes including the human form in contemporary sporting and leisure activities, which gave rise to larger statement works. Pen and ink, pastel and collage elements appear in a number of works throughout her career, reflecting inspiration from figures such as Matisse and Picasso, who also influenced her use of colour. Small frames of colourful Greek street scenes collatable into one large work reflect developing interest in experiment with scale, colour toning and mosaic techniques, with abstractified references to the Impressionist works appearing here and in other works between the 1990s and her death.
