Print, Edinburgh Dusk

This large framed print 75 x 60 cm unframed is one of a very popular series of etchings made in the early 1980s and one of an edition of 20. Using Coulouris' by now well-polished experience in steel etching techniques used to present urban scenes, the vertical contrasts, exotic roofline silhouettes and blackened stones of Edinburgh's Old Town and the Scott Monument are represented to atmospheric effect, with figures more important and integrated in the foreground than in the works of the artist's sometime teacher Lowry, by whom she was inspired throughout her career, Coulouris' skills in architectural representation, apparent in her early London print scenes, are drawn on strikingly.
